Additional Insured Endorsements Explained for Alberta Contractors

When you take on a commercial project in Alberta, the owner will likely ask to be named as an Additional Insured on your General Liability policy, extending your coverage to protect them from claims arising out of your work.

Ongoing vs Completed Operations

It's crucial to understand the difference. Some endorsements only protect the project owner while you are actively working on-site (Ongoing). Others protect them even after you finish the job (Completed). Alberta general contractors will almost always require both.

Primary and Non-Contributory

This wording ensures that if a claim happens, YOUR insurance pays out first, and the owner's insurance does not contribute to the payout. This is standard language in Alberta construction contracts.
